Rustic Bridge
Rustic Bridge
This bridge was built in 1915 and represents the early architectural style used at Taronga Zoo when it opened in 1916. It spans one of the seasonal watercourses in Taronga and links the zoo's lower entrance with the main exhibit areas. The Combinaison of stone and concrete work in the bridge, a popular design feature of the time, completemented the simulated stones 'grottoes' of the former Aquarium. The bridge is the largest such structure remaining but visitors can alsoo see other smaller examples such as ornamental seats around the grounds. In 2000 as part of taronga's master plan, the brridge decking was replaced and its structure renovated to preserve it for the future.
